Domain names still in yahoo

I get e-mails all the time about expired domain names that are still listed in yahoo. Are these services worth anything? I am not really in the market for a domain name still in yahoo ( I would imagine there would be name recognition problem), but is it something that people here use as a tool for SEO?

I can imagine that all the good names get gobbled up by proffessional domain name retrievers.

personally I don't think registering domains just because they were in Yahoo or ODP is a good reason. If you could find a name that relates to your subject matter and that has not been snatched by someone else then good luck. But I think the chances are quite low both those conditions will be meet.

It would only be so long before a competitor in the Y! directory structure would goto yahoo and say, this site forwards to another site.....

If your paying 9.95 as if you were registering a URL then go for it. Hey you may snag one like the pr0n company did which had 3500 backward links to the military website. ;)

I find expired domains that are listed in Yahoo and DMOZ perfect for instant traffic and rankings IF the domains are something you can use to build up a similiar site to what they were before.

"product" domains are easy to re-establish and you are WAY ahead of the game ..plus you saved yourself $299 submission fee to yahoo..

I've spent a few hours searching through eBay with a buddy for these domains. Slim pickings.

I think I would probably do better starting from scratch and getting it all the way I wanted it from square one. Besides, if $300 a year is too much for an ecom site then I would question what kind of business plan I had from the git go.
