i need help with registering a domain name

hi. i live in romania and i wanna buy a domain name. my isp provides dotcoms for $70 for 2 years(they don't have the one year option).i asked them why it is so expensive and they told me something about their registering my domain directly to the registrar authority or something. they said that other providers charge you a lot less but then the domain doesn't really belong to you or sth! now, i have no clue what they were talking about and don't know what to do.

If you have a credit card and are willing to register your domain online there are many many options open to you that are cheaper than your ISP. A few of the favorites here are:

as long as you are listed as the admin contact then there is no problem,

there are many good services that are considerably cheaper than what you've been asked for, most will bundle in services of various kinds, i suggest you use a company that allows you to use some kind of control panel to... at least

1) change A name and C name records (probably won't need to but maybe)

2) set the dns addresses

I use godaddy and have no problems. Contact info can be changed without problem at godaddy.
