I received a substantial offer, a good 5 figures, for my main company .com domain name yesterday which I have had since 1994, I also have the uk / eu / asia / in / biz / info / us and some others.

Interestingly I am drawing to the conclusion of a website re-branding away from this specific name and about 90% completed therefore the release of this domain name would not be much a problem compared to, say, a year ago.

The offer is from a well-known domain "house" and I obviously want to achieve the maximum possible over and above the current offer.

I haven't sold a large value domain for 5 years, any suggestions and have I missed out on anything new that I need to know?

I haven't ever sold a domain but I was interested in what someone new had made of a domain that I discarded.
Quite similar to what I had done with it but with a slight twist.
I wish them all the best with it.

My experience? What is first offered is usually HALF of what the potential buyer is really willing to pay.

Chat 'em up. See what happens. If the language begins to change probe them a bit further ... what "really going on" might reveal itself.

Of course, you can take the offer if you think it is valid, but just make sure the escrow is fully funded before you turn over the keys!

Yep, they're extremely well-known investors in premium names and they would like it doing quickly.

They've offered pretty much what I considered it is worth and considering how cheap some 4/5 letter .coms can be had these days, I can't think of any downside at the moment ... I'll have a couple of beers tonight to work out what I need to do to disentangle myself, point stuff, change user names, notify banks, contacts etc.

Grab the money and run! Just be sure to invest it in something productive, don't blow it on luxury spending.

Well, well, they went quiet for a week and then came back with an unacceptable offer only yesterday.

No thanks, please don't bother contacting me again if this is how you do deals!

Heh ... predicted as much. :)

Sell when YOU decide to sell. Otherwise, put offers through the wringer to make sure they are VALID!

YMMV

Obviously I'm not going to name who they are in public however I am surprised they'd try a dumb trick like this, they certainly didn't do their homework whatsoever about me and my businesses!
