guessing domains

anyone know....

I have the domain name, say, www.cars.co.uk. Does anyone, from experience, see massive amounts of traffic coming from people just guessing this domain in their browser bar?

Is it safe to say that if the name has high numbers in wordtracker, adwords, overture etc that this domain will do well from people just guessing the domain? (IE without SEO)

Yesterday at a local seminar I heard the figure 52% thrown out. I thought it a bit high and make NO claims to its accuracy.

50+% for First Time visitors is what I've heard too. eg: it pays to have a guessable/typeable domain name.

a friend of mine once found a two-word (common nouns) .com domain available. he bought it for potential "investment". although he didn't think 2 words would make it reachable by guessing, it was still nice for a targeted keyword-based domain strategy.
after he looked at the server logs, he realized that 00's of people kept on guessing his domain, and he started using it. i guess luck and type of activity have a big role in this kind of marketing.

not only guessing but remembering too. For example if you see/hear an advert for www.cars.com you're far more likely to remember it and type it in then www.bobsautomobilesforsale.com (or whatever).

Either way there is still a fair amount of traffic from guessing names, I do it occasionally myself..
