They've been a constant in the domain sales reports at [dnjournal.com ] .

I registered a nifty little "digital domain" (0 1 0 1) that I flipped about a year ago. I registered it because I thought it was a) cute and b) carried an implied "this is about digital" message.

4 digits -> sold for 5 digits. I wish I picked up more, but as I recall, there weren't many numericals (4 digits) available at that time.

Now, about those 4 letter domains . . . It seems like that space is also heating up . . So you may want to nose around a bit in the auctions "on the cheap". You could pick up decent ones for ~$50 or less, five or six years ago. By decent I mean ones that weren't all qzxc or xkzf or fzqx.

Actually some of these are quite useful in China and sell for lots more than you may think.

Hm. I picked up a couple five digit zip code domains. Been letting go a lot of domains but not those. Who knows why we hold on to some of these...

Dang. It would never have occurred to me that this is a thing, but I looked up my own (obscure small town) zip code and found it belongs to a .cn associated with ... well, a heck of a lot more than 10^5 names.

By decent I mean ones that weren't all qzxc or xkzf or fzqx.

Since my computer knows exactly where to go as soon as I type the letter "x", before even getting to "k", this makes me wonder what's out there in q- and f- land.

Major Chinese cities and provinces many of which are foreshortened to two letters.

I just looked at a few of the local area ZIP code dot com sites. All were parked, some had been made to look like a web directory (with affiliate links) and a few were obvious MFA sites. I just bid on a local ZIP code dot com site. They had the contact form hard wired to take a minimum $5,000 USD bid. Really?

I entered $5,020 and in the comment told them to let me know when they'll take $20 USD. My guess is a new set of entrepreneurs are purchasing these not so high potential sites?
