How do you register a .ca Canadian domain name if not based in Canada?

Any way of doing it?

You must have a presence in Canada in order to qualify for a .CA domain. To register a Canadian domain name you must be one of the following:

Canadian citizen
Permanent Canadian resident or legal representative of aforementioned
Canadian corporation, trust, partnership, or association

We are based in the UK. We are setting up a web site with Canadian surfers specifically in mind. A lot of work is going into it and the site will be specifically for Canadians.

Is there any way of register a .ca domain name considering the rules there are about register a Canadian name?

We don't want to do anything illegal, of course, but we're not big enough to have offices in Canada (doesn't matter on the net)! Surely we should be entitled to register a .ca domain name somehow...

It's like all those stupid merchants who insist you are based in the USA to join their affiliate program, even though you have a web site which has 90% US visitors.

These people need to open their eyes: we are living in a global community. Restricting people based on their geographical location, if they are based in a reputable country, is anachronistic.

you could explore this idea..........

if your website is about WonderfulWidgets (I made that up), then register WonderfulWidgets as a Canadian trademark.

As the legal owner of a Canadian tradmark you qualify to legitimately register a .ca domain.

I've never tried it, but..........

good luck,

Simon

Check out the section on "ex-pro" rules of Canadian presence.
