Are all these new extensions really gTLDs?

I'm not sure where to find the answer to this, Wikipedia doesn't seem to have it:

[en.wikipedia.org...]

But Icann says they are:

[newgtlds.icann.org...]

What does this mean for search engines if they are truly gTLDs?

How will they be able to have geo-location targetting?

Will this make server location more important?

in addition to the "official" gTLDs, google also treats some ccTLDs as gTLDs since they have become used that way in practice.

the following as gTLDs that can be geotargeted in Webmaster Tools.

That's interesting, I didn't know gTLDs could be targeted with a geo-location, then again I don't use Webmaster Tools!

What I was thinking is that someone with example.london is most probably targeting London, I know, it's not necessarily so, but someone with example.guru may be picked up and presented to a global audience when they may only want a regional one.

Therefore IF someone uses Webmaster Tools then they should be able to target their audience ... right, could we now get Google to re-target US companies for their own market instead of filling-up other country results?

i assume google will eventually catch up with the new gTLDs and make those geotargetable.

how they target those domains in regional results pages will probably depend on the usual geotargeting factors - hosting location, citations, links, local content, etc.
