Man . . . I saw this in the industry news . . and I so wanted to post it . . and I so didn't want to post it . . cause . .

<crankiness>

What year is this? 2014?

When did I start receiving how many notices from DRA that my domain was expiring and needed to be renewed? Was it 2005? 2006? 2007? 2008? All those years or most of them? Was it hundreds, maybe thousands of notices over those years?

Gee, ICANN, I guess UCANN . . given enough years and acts by DRA.

Huhrah . . as in Huh? Rah?

</crankiness>

Thanks ICANN. You finally have done something that mildly impresses me, i.e., you did the right thing . . maybe . . 90 days? Okay, I'm not impressed. </sorry, more crankiness>

C'mon, ICANN, give us a hint. What, exactly, did BGI do-- or rather, fail to do-- on 16 December 2013, 19 March 2014, and 18 July 2014?

The last date implies that they were already on notice: "If you EVER do this again, we will whup your ### without delay."

It's a process of deception. It's cleverly written, and was not actually illegal from the point of view of the law of the land. ICANN's rules, of course, are a different matter.

Besides receiving many of these myself, I had so many calls from friends, colleagues and clients asking if they should go ahead and register. It wasted a huge amount of my time explaining the situation.
