Interesting (and short) article by DNW describing inconsistencies between what the new gTLD registries are publicly reporting as their domain registration statistics and what the zone files are showing.

If you look at the top 10 domains by zone files, at least three of them include a lot of free or registry-owned domain names.

Article here [domainnamewire.com ]

Hype? BS? Casual indifference to consumers erring in their perception about the vitality of a new gTLD?

I'm sitting on my hands when it comes to speculative regs of new gTLDs. Been there. Done that.

Just ran the TLD DNA (Cross TLD comparisons with all domains in the tracked new gTLDs versus the same phrase in com/net/org/biz/info/mobi/asia). The DNA for .xyz looks strange in comparison to others. This is a developing story and the .xyz registry and CEO are taking a bit of a drubbing on the domainer blogs.
