Networksolutions and Transfers?

has anyone else had trouble transferring domain names away from network solutions ? i've been trying for over a year now and still no luck. expiry is next month and it looks like i now have to pay their $70 per domain fee to keep the domains instead of $10 through my opensrs account.

or is there another way ? before anyone suggests i let them lapse and then buy them using my opensrs account, this won't work as they are both sought after and important to my business.

fortunately it's only 2 domains, but i resent havign to pay network solutions 7 times as much as i would otherwise pay, especially after having had so much trouble trying to get out of the network solutions entrapment methods. surely this form of entrapment should be made illegal ?

Even if you allow them to expire, there's a long process until they're released. No, I haven't had a problem transferring to a different registrar, but it was done prior to 30 days before the NSI expiration date. It was to a Tucows reseller, the one I generally use. The one that was tried after that (actually after the expiration) NSI refused unless I paid them for the coming year.

It will say on their site that it's $70, just to hook you in for 2 years. When I saw that, I called their toll-free number and renewed for one year for $35 by phone. There was no choice, it was past the time and I couldn't take a chance on it getting into the wrong hands, aside from a couple of pages having been in the Ink database for a long time.

So it was $22 extra and I had to bite the bullet for another year. I will be transferring out to another registrar however, when I decide about changing hosting, because my experience with making a nameserver change with NS is that it doesn't happen unless you move to another registrar.

I used godaddy on 5 domains recently and it was handled fairly well, you have to reply to the confirmation emails that Netsol sends you, fairly straightforward if you read the instructions supplied by godaddy. Don't expect any help from the extortionists at Netsol...I ran into the same 70.00 issue and was stonewalled even after 5 phone calls, they kept telling me something about the billing and the receiving wouldn't post correctly, blah, blah..something like , we billed you 70 bucks and won't take anything else, I would never buy a domain from them again.

I've heard of people having trouble escaping Netsol but I personally have never had a hard time with them transferring a domain. I have transferred them all out of there now.

Netsol is one of those companies helping to make those hands free headsets for cordless phones popular. Just put on your headset...dial up Netsol and wait for the next 45 minutes before you talk to a real person.....and then hope that you get it resolved.

I've had a hard time transferring domains from netsol. Has anyone told them they aren't a govt protected monopoly anymore?

Just discovered GoDaddy, have experienced great customer service, great prices, and quick changes to DNS servers. I have a few long term registrations through NSI but the won't get another dime from me for any new registrations.
