Release of expired domains with netsol

A domain name expired with Network Solutions on Sept. 11th. Spoke to a rep on the phone about renewal and release, and was told that the official date for release was set for Nov. 22nd.

She also said that even after that, they tack on an additional 30 days "grace period" which brings it to Dec. 22nd. So that's 3-1/2 half months from expiration to release, assuming that it'll actually be released when they say it will.

I don't want to put a dark cloud on your chances of landing that domain, but I have seen some Netsol domains expired for over a year without becoming available! I have landed some expired domains by checking the whois once or twice a day. One expired domain I had to check for 5 months.

Oh Marty, it's my own domain :) I didn't try to transfer it to another registrar soon enough prior to expiration, so they refused to release it for transfer unless I renewed, which I've done. Not online, that was automatically $70 for two years. I renewed for one by phone, which is how I got the dates.

With another registrar I use, they hold on for 5 weeks after expiration. I let another domain expire and registered it someplace else the same morning it was released. The registrar's word was good on 5 weeks, down to the day.

I'll still have to transfer this to another registrar to be able to change hosting, since NS is bad with making nameserver changes, from my experience.

Wow, I kinda think it's fun chasing down those expired domains, waiting until they're released, jumping on them with credit card in hand when they are available. What a rush!

I never tried this with my own domains though! ;)

Just use snapnames, then you can pick and choose, then go to sleep, knowing that the credit card is in a very fast hand indeed.

I've noticed with some of my own expired domains, that they are still valid. That is, even though they've expired, they are still pointing at my DNS and work fine. I'm wondering if I could renew at the very end of the float period to save a couple bucks(pay for a year, get 1.5 years).

ggrot, how long has it been since expiration?

Mine was resolving from Sept. 9th (not the 11th) 'til yesterday, when they pulled the plug. It was back up earlier on the east coast, and just now is back up for me. So it took about 24 hours.

The one I'm looking at now expired on 9/28 through register.com. So its only been a month really. I have no intentions of renewing it, so I'll keep an eye on what it does.

Surely they work in the same way as car tax that it is back dated when you do finally renew it. So you don't get any free time!

Thats exactly what they do and you stand the chance of losing the domain if its a valuable one if they release the expired domain earlier.
So, no win there!

Also, I tried to transfer 5 domains to another registrar because I was sick of Net. Solutions antequated processes!

Their verification system kept falling over when the new registrar requested the change.

Eventually, I renewed the domain with Netsol which is no doubt what they wanted anyway!

The term F....... Frustrating comes to mind!
