I received an email from a company (or person) called <snip> offering to purchase one of my Domains.

They have given me links to 3 appraisal companies and told me that they will pay 50% to 65% of the appraised value.

This is a domain I bought ages ago because I had an idea for a site but I have never made the time to pursue it so I guess I would be happy to see it go at a good price.

I have never bought and sold domains on the open market so can I ask for some advice please?

1) is this a reputable company? I fear it might be a scam to get me to pay through the nose for an appraisal.

2) if it is a genuine enquiry is 50% to 65% of appraised value a reasonable offer.

3) can i get a free appraisal anywhere to give me an idea of the ball park value so I can decide if a paid for appraisal is worth it?

4) is there a better way of selling a domain?

Any help/advice gratefully received.

scam ..Definately ..old trick ..mentioned frequently here in this forum ..real buyers make offers up front ..or ask how much do you want ..

look up some of the old threads in here in Domains to see if similar domains to yours have been discussed at any time ( webworks and buckworks have relaxed the rules in the past and actual sites that have sold or gone to auction have been mentioned ..with figures ..and niche ..) something may be near enough to your site to give you an inkling ..

Also some of the big registrars actually buy domains just for their names ..they will make you an offer if they are interested..( you are under no obligation to accept it ) and they do know the aftermarket ..
