How can you find out if your registrar is about to go bankrupt?

Around 2 years ago my regular registrar was bought over by a foreign company that seemed to shut down most of the "extras" on offer for administration.

So, I took up the lengthy task of moving some of my 900+ domain portfolio over to a new registrar - which I thought was a major player and quite untouchable. Needless to say, they were happy to have me and for the first year support services were quick and effective with all support queries answered the same day.

Now, the support service has vanished, replaced by some off-site support system and it now takes 7+ days to get a response to support queries.

7 days to respond to support tickets is just ridiculous! Especially if you're having a problem with a transfer with a 5 day window!

I can't see anything in plain site indicating that the company is in trouble and have had to lay off all their support staff. Am I allowed to post the registrar name here to see if any of you have heard grumblings?

Thanks
Mike

If it's the registrar I think you are referring to (who's name begins with M) and who farmed-out tech support to a 3rd party non-domain firm you are lucky to get support in 7-days. I have a ticket from May unresolved with barely any response on the issue. Since I have reopened the ticket over and over again they finally responded but want me to start from the beginning even though it was all documented almost 2-mos ago. Odd thing is the issue (which involves incorrect new expiration dates upon renewal) is not too complicated and they should be able to fix it easily. Very sad they have declined vs the past when they were good.

Sounds familiar! ;) No hint that they are actually going under then? I have time to move my 900+ domains away from them?

That's what everyone said, I was recommended to them by people on these boards and it was great. Until recently. That sharp a decline in service is always a concern as to hidden, deeper problems. Just wondering if I have to panic move my domains or if I'm simply leaving a registrar that has turned anti-customer-satisfaction.
