How to prove when the website went live?

Hi,

I'd like to start a website after this semester (in august) and to be able to prove that I only started it in august 2009 (not before).

Is there any way to do that? I was thinking of making sure I only register the domain then...but would this not be real proof because someone might say I might have simply done a redirect with it?

thanks!

Got me curious... Usually taking out the domain is proof of start... are you intending to migrate an existing site to the new domain instead of creating a new site? Proof of CONTENT might be done via wayback (archive.org), but are you sure you want to give them content to cache? (Copyrights, etc.) But as for the domain, your registration dates will show when.

Registration dates will show when...but, wouldn't it be possible that I had simply redirected an existing site to the new domain, thus the registration date wouldnt mean anything really...?

What do you want to document. The site name or the content?

Um that's a good question lol, sorry for not being specific enough. Actually, I want to document/prove that I built all the links I'm going to build in that period (august 2009 - february 2010) during that period.

At first, I thought shouldnt be a problem if I just register the domain then, but now I'm thinking it wouldn't really be proof as I could have simply redirected the site if my guess is right.

You could have had a site for years and then just uploaded the content to a new url. I can't think of any way to prove that particular content did not exist at an earlier date under a different domain.

Im not wondering about the content, but about the links pointing to it, though...I guess theres no real possibility for that either?

I think I'll simply start a forum post in a reputable forum or two about the launch of my website, telling people about my plans (of getting links), so that it'll be pretty clear when the site got started unless somebody is big on conspiracy theories ;-)....I don't need it for a legal situation, after all (thus no ultimate proof is required)

Is this some kind of bet or contest? If so, sounds interesting! :)
