So I've been doing some searching here for TDL strategies, most of which seem to revolve around doing 301s back to avoid the duplicate-content penalties and letting the SEs realize its the same site....but what if the sites NEED slightly different content.

More specifically, we're looking at registering a "corporatename".mobi site to match our .com site name....this site would be optimized for mobile-devices.

Would I want to 301 over to .mobi for a mobile device visiting the .com , and vise-versa for non-mobile devices? I'm REALLY concerned about being penalized here, as corporate-branding over-rides ANYTHING in our business. We aquire new business from other channels, and our web users are a captured audience. But we still must rank well on the corporate name.

Also, if we published a corporatename.biz for business partners (again, some content overlap, but no redirects), how would that influence SE results?

Thoughts / suggestions / concerns?

Thanks!

.mobi is the exception and should be handled differently by the search engines. If you 301 it to your main site the registry may take the domain off you if your main site is not designed to display correctly on mobile devices.

For all other combinations slight differences in the sites is the worst scenario; one or more search engines will likely penalize you quite hard.
