Sounds like this domain was not renewed and is in the process of being cancelled (a.k.a. deleted).

Nominet describe the renewal process here [nominet.org.uk].

The current owner should still be able to renew the name - have you tried contacting them?

I never tried to backorder a uk domain name sorry can't help ya there.
Have you done some searches to see? I will try and see.

That was easy Google "can u backorder a uk domain name" and you got your answer.

Can't say I know of a "reputable company" but I quickly found listings for companies that purport to offer backordering services for detagged or expiring co.uk domains. The search terms are obvious enough so I needn't post them. The "reputation" isn't obvious from the Google.co.uk serps.

I hate to get into threads endorsing the reputation of service providers . . BUT . . . maybe on this topic . . maybe just this one time we can . . .

Being a mod here is such a cake walk, ya know? Anything goes . . . :P

P.S. Quite a good name . . so you would not like to contact them?

Sometimes you just have to plow through your fears. I was able to secure quite a few domains by directly contacting the registrants of expiring domains. Succeeded about 4 in10 times average, which at the time was a far better success rate than I would have achieved playing the drop-catching game. Good karma, too, as I always prefaced my communication by asking "Are you aware that your domain name has recently expired?" 50% weren't an thanked me. 40% were and often said something like "You can have it" and the other 10% simply were not reachable. (Rough averages here.)

Thanks guys for the replys.

This will change things I think lol..

the Registrant is "example company" and that company owns this domain.

How does this change things?
