I am wondering, and I am also very new here, about the pros and cons of registering private domains?

Are there are some hidden dangers or advantages either way that I am wholly unaware of as a new player in this game.

Pro: keep your info hidden from spammers, telemarketers, and possible hostiles from making your life incredibly miserable and difficult.

Cons: might prevent people with legit intentions from checking you out. Your registrar can also suspend it upon notice of legal dispute.

If a site or smtp server is down, partially down or DNS is broken the next step I use is the domain whois info to get in contact with the site/domain owner.

Whenever I have had to contact a site for valid reasons or for like the situation above and the domain details are private my rate of success in contacting the domain owner has been zero.

Not sure if people forget to check their anonymous address attached to the domain or the forwarding is broken.
