domain registration and domain transfer dates

if the domain was registered for example in 1999, and now the domain is transfered to another owner in 2009 will there be written in WHOIS in domain registration date 1999 or 2009?

1999 remains the registration date. 2009 would show as the data of the last WhoIs update.
