Has your domaining been uninspired lately? Have you been groping in the dark, trying to come up with a good domain name for your next web project? Have you failed to even impress yourself with your recent registrations?

Well, it's time to get inspired and get your domain game on!

Announcing the first Domain Forum Domaining Challenge:

The Domaining Challenge is a test of your creative domain mining skills, or a test of your ability to get lucky, or at least an opportunity to demonstrate your sense of humor or other important domaining skills and methods. :)

The challenge is to see who, by force of insight, creativity, skill, or unbelievable good luck can register the best domain in the next ~ 10 days.

"Best" means something akin to a domain that a) is likely to draw type-in traffic on its own; b) holds the likelihood of attracting higher PPC traffic; c) is likely to have a long life (not just a passing fad, but a huge fad might work); d) works really well under the given TLD, e.g., a great ".Info-rmation website". Ultimately, participants will get to say what makes the best the best - assuming y'all can agree.

Terms and conditions of participation in the Domaining Challenge:

1. This thread is only open to WebmasterWorld members with >50 posts to their credit.
   
2. To accept the challenge you must post "I'm in" - in this thread - no later than 11:59 P.M. Thursday June 29th.
   
3. The period for registering a domain entry runs from the 12:01 A.M. E.S.T. Monday June 19 though 11:59 P.M. Thursday June 29th. Domain entrants must be posted in this thread on June 30th, not before or after.
   
4. Please sticky me your domain entry by June 29th if you won't have internet access on June 30th.
   
5. One domain entry per participant. Domain names must be newly registered during the above time period. "Newly registered" means no domain drop captures, no transfers, no auction wins. Only fresh, original, new registrations. No trademark or trademark typo, adult or other offensive or dubious or improper domains please.
   
6. Limited to new .Com, .Net, .Org, .Info and .Biz TLDs.
   
7. Participants agree to explain how they went about researching and picking their domain entry. The challenge is both a skills and methods test AND educational process for people new to domaining AND educational for people simply trying to figure out how to come up with a good domain for their website.
   
8. Participants will vote for the winner. I'll act as tie-breaker if necessary.

Pretty good, mama, as long URLs go. High value PPC. Popular phrase. Darned shame you couldn't snag the .Com, however I've found that some .Net TLDs will have spillover direct navigation traffic as a result of a) the popularity of the phrase; and, b) the .Com being nothing more than a parked page.

Looks like you may benefit from both factors.

BTW, nice catch with the geo targetted moving names! I've found a decent local name or two here and there but I've never managed to make a sweep like that!

Harley, your analysis and approach to picking a domain is spot on. Add to the analysis 1 measure of personal interest (guess I know what merit badge project is taking place ;) + a niche market selection and it's a perfect marriage. It's the beauty of commerce and personal interest.

Heh, considering that everyone here has the techniques down, I'm not sure I wish for a critique ;)

I have been working on learning, but am sooo confused with it all.

Now, add domain information to my piles of folders printed out on css, xhtml, seo(and all that appears to fall under that one), lists with css etc... I have a double filing cabinet filled with folders and two milk crates with information.

who'd thought when I started to teach myself that there was so much involved!

It is a long road to travel, but I am not giving up till I reach the hotel of greatest web designer ;) (think I can find the directions on map quest? LOL)
