Hi,

Just curious as what would happen if a domain with an american spelling of a word, for example had the word say... "center" in it, but a domain already registered in the UK had the same domain except spelt with "centre" instead and this company was already trading.....

Would it be a bad idea to use the "center" domain...would it be legal?

Thanks,

bwnbwn

Attempting to profit from deception or confusion may land you in trouble - however, if you plan to trade in a different line of business, you should be ok (but nothing is certain).

Depending on the size of their corporate ego, they may still try something even if you're in a completely different line of business.

Have seen it happen with a globally active telecom, going after a small-biz owner who had been legitimately using his company's two initials with the addition of a geographical denominator. The telecom's initials happened to be the same but were not even actively used.

They came in right away with legal threats, he did not budge and ended up selling it to them.
