I am trying to find some information on selling some Chinese domain names? I came across some information stating that Chinese Domain names are not allowed to be sold for profit. Does anyone know anything about this or where I could find more?

Some FYI: I know a US based company that owns thousands of one-word chinese domain names many of them translate into already successful, multi-million dollar US online companies. I would like to know the rules/regulations for this reason.

What sort of Chinese domain names are you referring to? I don't see mention of this profit clause in the CNNIC China Internet Domain Name Regulations [cnnic.net.cn].

If you click on this link.. it was a prior forum discussion that I saw and it mentions that Chinese domain names are not allowed to sell or transfer for profit. I was, and am, confused about what they were referring to.

That's a 6 year old thread. :o

A lot has changed in the .cn namespace since then. Most notably, they opened up Second-level .CN domain names [webmasterworld.com] in 2003. After that the rules changed.

The best place to check for regulations for .cn domain names is the CNNIC [cnnic.net.cn] site I linked to above.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Qsonie.

We have discussed this issue before [webmasterworld.com]:

Second level .cn domain names are officially available for companies and organizations worldwide. Although individual ownership is strictly prohibited for individuals in China, it is quite easy for individuals residing outside China to purchase them.
