Switching Registrars- down time?

this is most likely a beginner question, but when i transfer a domain from say register.com to godaddy.com there's gonna be down time right?

For a simple domain transfer, there is no downtime if the nameservers are not modified and the website does not change servers. The only thing that changes is the management of the domain itself.

If you change the hosting at the same time as the domain transfer, there can be downtime if you have not planned for the gradual transfer of traffic from the old server to the new. Even for a hosting change, most downtime can be mitigated of eliminated entirely.
