Hi,

My friend wants to buy a domain off its current owner.

She wants to redirect her soon to be aquired domain to her current website (it is the .co.uk version of her .com site)

Her site is currently a Blogger site hosted by Google.

I have never bought a domain off anyone other than a hosting company so not sure how to advise her here.

Will she need to use a hosting company to take ownership of the domain for her, and redirect it to her current site?

Thanks

As it is a .co.uk she will need to go through a Nominet Registrar (TAG Holder). (TAG Holders may or may not be hosting companies - most are)

The transfer of the registrant(owner) of the domain needs to go through Nominet
[nic.uk...]

There is plenty of advice for registrants on the Nominet site and their email and phone support is great too.

Once you have control of the domain you will need to set nameservers for the domain and then do the redirect - I would recommend a 301 redirect as the best type of redirect.
