hi all, first post here :)

having a bit of a problem trying to create a subdomain on my domain account.

I have the CNAME record where the host is called mll, and the address it points to is my local server. I also have the virtual host entry:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName mll.example.com
DocumentRoot D:/webserver/htdocs/mll
</VirtualHost>

It is on my understanding that this should work, however when i try [mll.example.com...] it just reverts back to my WWW cname value.

If anyone can see anything blatently wrong with the data inputted then i hope this problem wont be evading me for too much longer :)

if you require anymore information, just ask :)

Hi biskitz. Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Server software is typically customized to the host's administrative preferences or specs. Therefore, your webhost is in the best position to answer tech support questions.

Did you present your issue to your webhost?

What did you learn?

Been there. Done that. :P

Even when one is one's own admin for a dedicated/shared server the NOC for the ISP provides all manner of "support": customized FAQ, set-up tutorials, a message board support system, etc.

I have admin'ed dedicated and shared servers at several different ISPs and in every case I found their internal support system to be best suited to issues related to server set up.

I'm not turning you away so much as I'm telling you, based upon my own experience of the past 8 years, that the best and quickest responses to server set up issues come from those who know the intimate details about the servers/software. The first place I would look would be the NOC's support system: FAQ, tutorials, ISP's forum, ticket system, etc.

That said, anyone can attempt to answer your question "as is". Pending that outcome exhaust your server host's support system options.
