It's pretty good- just make sure there's not fine print obligating you to pay for lots of services you don't need.

I pay $19 USD for two years for .coms - great value in my opinion and no extra cost for parking or changing nameservers. etc..

At this rate I am happy to have a punt on a few names that I may, or may not develop...

Wow! A domain pricing discussion without getting into registrar identification, plugs, promos, etc.

I'm impressed. There is hope. :)

All kidding aside - thanks. It's nice to see that we can address questions without launching into . . errr . . that stuff . .

$8 to $10 per year is a reasonable deal for a small number of domains.

I buy one for $8.95 and get one renewal for $1.99....so I guess my average cost is $5.47 per year.

$10 is a good deal as long as you have good admin tools, like grouping all your domains in one account.
I am sure "power buyers" get a better rate.
My ideal cost would be $2.50 per.
I would take out 10x more names.
I like to buy old domains like an album collector picks up old lps.
I have old political domains, goverment related domains, defunct or renamed company sites, etc.
It is like owning a piece of history.

$10.00 is what most places now offer. There are some old registrars which still sell for $34.95 (last time I checked) which is silly. I have a couple of domains with that company which I registered a few years ago for 5 years, but I would never pay that much again.

The $2.50 idea sounds good to me. I would certianly buy more if that was the price.

I wouldn't say 10 US dollars is a good deal maybe a few years ago though now that seems above average. I get mine for 5.99 which includes private registration. Needless to say they're probably not making much money in the domain business though they must be doing quite well in other areas as they're sponsoring one of the America's cup boats.

I pay $6 for most of mine, trying to reduce the overall costs right now actually. I don't get private reg included with the current company but the admin side of things is very easy.

minnapple - that's quite a hobby. A much better conversation starter than owning a domain name that's clever but never been anywhere.

I agree with other posters--good price. Just be careful about any registrar's fine print. Some will sell you a domain registration for $xx a year, but then charge you a much higher fee if you want to transfer the domain to another registrar. You also need to be sure the registrar gives you the ability to fully manage the domain, e.g., DNS management, forwarding, lock the domain, auto renew, push to another account....

I've even run into a couple of registrars where it is nearly impossible to *simply get access* to my domain account. Always read the TOS before you use a new registrar to be sure your domains won't be held hostage.
