Have a number of domains with one of the highly advertised registrars(200+). Yesterday I received one of the many registrar email notifications that one of my domains is at the risk of expiring. This is a .de domain and it seems the handling for these domain is completely different than all the other domains. I tried to renew yesterday, but the registrar did not allow anymore to renew the domain. The domain is now also forwarded to one of their advertising pages and not to my site. Contacting the registrar support seems to be another story ... after the 4th reply from them, they again ask me which domain I am talking about and they need my method of payment and $17.99. When I asked why I have to pay more for a non-expired domain after just 11 months after I registered the domain, they answered with this: "Unfortunately .DE domains along with many Country Code Top Level domains must be renewed on the 20th day of the month prior to the set expiry date to avoid the registry redemption." ... How can I know about this? They did not give me any indication that this domain is handled differently.
Is this just this registrar or is this the standard behavior?
