Domain Name and Site Valuation

I have a client that is shutting down his business. I'd like to help him sell either the site or the domain, or both, to make a little extra cash.

Should we focus on just selling the domain name?

The alternative would be to sell the entire website, and I would simply change out the business name and a few menu choices.

Domain name appraisals have always seemed like a scam to me, so how can I determine the value of a <website>?

Any recommendations on where to sell the domain?

The easiest way to determine value is to post the website data and solicit offers. You needn't set a price. The site's verified data should trigger offers.

There are myriad domain and webmaster forums that allow you to "do business" on their site.

Most free or low cost appraisals are worthless. Each site needs to be valued according to the specifics of the domain and site. For example, not all inbound links are created equal with some far more valuable than others. Not all domains or sites have the same prospects for future growth.

Where to sell? Everywhere where the only cost of selling is your time to post the data. You might even post a notice on the site itself indicating that it's for sale.
