I'm not a domainer but I do own a few hundred domains. I got a promo package from CapitalOne (credit card company) today directed at the business owner of one of my keyword domains. The words were split apart to make it readable but it was clearly based on one of my obscure domains. I've never done anything with this domain except park it for click throughs. It struck me as very odd that these folks would be scouring the domain space looking for business!

Argh! I'm dope slapping myself for inexplicably not responding earlier. Nice to see you here Lorax. ;)

At long last reading your post I'm a bit blown away by this revelation. Given Capital One's incessant, and somewhat funny/effective marketing, this is an interesting find.

What does Capital One know or what are they exploring by soliciting business based upon domain registrations?

As a demographic, do domain registrants possess a certain business savvy or other desirable characteristics?

Who is selling the data and what are the arguments that are being made to any company in favor of buying the data.

Just what does a domain registration indicate that would drive a company as sophisticated at CapitalOne to engage in a direct mail campaign - based upon domain registrations?

Does the fact that I have more domains than most mean I'm more credit worthy? :)

Oh No! Sounds like I can expect even more waste paper from CapitalOne in the future.
