Technophobe - how to re-brand my wordpress site

Hi all,

Apologies for my lack of technical knowledge here, I'm asking this in layman's terms!

I have a wordpress site which is 2 weeks old, probably has around 30 articles and is starting to generate revenue already.

However, there is a big problem. The domain I purchased is pretty poor. It is a .co.uk with hyphens, not catchy, and the .com is already taken.

I didn't really think the site would do very well, so I didn't plan ahead, but now it looks very promising that this could turn into a very profitable website and something i could build a brand around and sell at a later date.

So, I want to rename the site.

I've found and bought an alternative domain name for the site, I have secured the .com, .co.uk and the major misspellings of it. the new domain could be a decent recognisable brand.

But now I'm wondering, how on earth do I transfer my site on the old bad domain to the new catchy domain?

Is this possible?

- If so, how is it done?
- If not, I guess I could just start from scratch with new content (not a problem, its the kind of site where new content is added all the time). But this would be a bit of a pain to do.

Ideally I would love to somehow replace the old domain name with the new one, along with the site logo, and continue with the site. If someone can give me a layman's terms 'how to' do this, I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Not sure on your server but the best way would be just rename the hypened on to the new one and set up a 301 from the hypened one to the new one.

In other words just replace the domain name and do a find and replace if you hardlinked any url's.

Your host will help ya on the 301 just make sure it is a 301 doo a header check after they say the 301 is set up.
