Buying a .eu site

I don't live in the EU, and I don't "do business" there

I really want the .eu version of my domain name, but I do not live in the EU.

I have a website that does not have any bricks and mortar equivalent, but I would imagine I would have some online visitors from the EU.

If given the chance to buy the .eu version, I would use it for a European version of my site.

I absolutely hate the idea that its just floating around, unpurchased, and available to others.

What are my options?

You need to have a European Union address in your whois and tell a little white lie that you are resident on your application.

Do you not know anyone who resides in Europe, who you could trust, who also owns a credit card?

Surely you must know someone, it is your only option really.

You could also incorporate a company in one of the EU countries and use that company to legally purchase the domain name/s. Incorporation is very cheap and quick in some of the EU countries - maybe as little at $100. The UK is very popular for this sort of thing and so is Ireland (due to low company tax rates.)

The .eu TLD does not represent site visitors but site owners.

You can register a .EU domain from anywhere in the world. All you need to do is provide a EUROPEAN REGISTRANT address though the billing address could be US or anywhere else.

I have used the information above, and with the help of a friend in Europe, have successfully registered a .eu.
