A £20,000 grant to secure a "dot cym" internet address for Wales is to be given by the assembly government.Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said the money was to support the DotCYM campaign for a Welsh version of the .com or co.uk endings.
He said it would "open up new marketing opportunities and help promote the Wales brand."
But a Cardiff Business School report said there was little evidence to show .cym would promote Welsh culture.
Ieuan Wyn Jones is the leader of Plaid Cymru - no suprise that this initiative came from him (or his party to be more exact). To be fair Wales is a beautiful place and they need to promote it more, not sure if .cym would help here, but they definately need to raise profile abroad - if you visit a place like Rhossili Bay you will want to come back again and again :)
councillors and politicians need to stop suggesting stupid ways to spend taxpayers money
If they do that, they'd be out of job by next week :)
I agree - TLD is really a waste of money, though from their point of view they waste a lot more on a lot less visible things, which is probably why they were attracted to this idea in the first place. Maybe it would have been more sensible in securing .CYM.UK kind of TLD thingy, should be cheaper and won't break my code...
