Buying an expired domain name

There's a domain name I'd like to buy that's expiring very soon. It's up for auction with godaddy.com. Has anyone bought a name from this godaddy auction? Do I need to be a member of the Godaddy Aftermarket?

I'd really appreciate some advice if someone has done this before.

Yes you need to join The Domain Name Aftermarket. It's about $5 per year. After you've joined you will be able to bid on the domain. Good luck.
