Pardon me if this has been discussed before.

I tried to register a domain (for a customer) at a large registrar today only to find they have the domain registered with their own company and want me to bid on it.

Is this common? This does not seem right and I am trying to get an idea of this parctice before talking with my customer.

Your help is appreciated.

Today seems to be a bit of a bend the rules day.

What registrar are we talking about? NetSol?

Is this a situation where you checked to see if the name is available and when you came back, to register it, the domain was registered under the guise/pretense of "protecting your interests"?

Or is this pure cybersquatting?

I know some registrars like Network Solutions indeed have some domain names
in their corporate name. Some are for future development, others...well...feel
free to draw your own conclusions.

It's debatable whether it's ethical or not, depending on the intent and whose
side of the fence you're on.
