How to Go About Buying a Domain for a Project

Hiii, my friends and I are planning on buying a domain for <a project> but we don't know how to go about doing so.

I mean, we know that there are domain sites everywhere, but they're all different, so we don't know which one is the best to buy.

We're looking for a cheap .com.au domain (30-40 dollars per two years).

Is it necessary to have an ABN since our site isn't for a business? The sites we've been finding require one.

I'd appreciate any help!

Go to a newsagent and buy some computer magazines.

Check out the companies advertising at the back and compare what they offer. These will be the ones pitching for the budget end of the market.

Use a search engine to check out comments in forums about the quality of service from the companies that you are considering.

Hello mc1990. Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

From your description and your approach to this issue I'd say your best bet is to "post your interest" at the various domain forums (not here) that allow you to post what you are looking for and what you are prepared to pay. Since you found your way here I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding the other domain forums.

I doubt you will find any domains for sale "at your price" at the various domain auction sites.

I also doubt you will find private sellers - ones that you might contact directly, based upon a WhoIs check - who would be willing to sell in your price range.

Please take a moment to read the Charter [webmasterworld.com] and the WebmasterWorld TOS. We're a bit different than most other forums and the reading will help you along greatly.

Good luck with your efforts.
