Hi,

I registered a domain (let's call it domain1.com) somewhere. I already had a domain (domain2.com) which was registered with a different ISP.

For domain2.com, I also have webhosting, not for domain1.com.
I can create subdomains like johan.domain2.com which are actually domain2.com/johan.
For johan.domain2.com I can create seperate ftp accounts so I would like to use this to host the website for domain1.com.

What do I need to do that when I type domain1.com in the address bar, that I see the website that is hosted on johan.domain2.com but still see domain1.com in the address bar of the browser?

I already tried setting the NS records of domain1.com to the nameservers of domain2.com and added a CNAME record for www.domain1.com pointing to johan.domain2.com, but the result is that I see the main page of the ISP of domain2.com instead of the page that is on johan.domain2.com.

can anybody help me?
I know I should search the web, but since I'm not a native english speaker, I don't really know what to search for...

any help is appreciated. also links to the solution is welcome.

thanks in advance.

Johan

Hi Jspeybro, welcome to W.W.

What do I need to do that when I type domain1.com in the address bar, that I see the website that is hosted on johan.domain2.com but still see domain1.com in the address bar of the browser?

The webserver apparently is configured for virtual domain hosting, and if the webserver gets a request for an unknown domain, it displays a default page instead.

So you need to talk to your hoster to have him to extend the webserver's config to add another virtual host definition to explicitly point requests for domain1.com to [documentroot_of_domain2]/johan.

Kind regards,
R.
