Are these the right steps to getting my site online. Are they in the right order?

Am i right in assuming you:

1. Get your domain registered - I've heard companies are much for muchniess?

2. Get a host - here I need to look for decently priced and that they host the right languages? Anything else that I should look out for that can't be changed later?

3. Upload my site

4. Wait for google to crawl me - I've heard this is quicker than submitting my site with them? Are meta tags essential for robots here or do they default somehow?

5. Get others to link to me

6. Apply to adsense - or do I do this earlier?!

Thanks

Looks like the natural order of events.

Reverse #5 and #4 - get some outside links that are searched by Google and then get searched.
