Dear all

Had a client ask today about directing a number of different TLD's to a single UK based web site.

At the moment, the site is hosted under www.companyname.co.uk, they also want to point www.companyname.ie and www.companyname.fr to the same UK hosted web site.

Are there still drawbacks to doing this these days?

Used to be that the SE's would make their own decision as to which domain from many pointing the same site is the 'prime' domain, and this wouldn't necessarily tally with the clients most important domain.

Are there other penalties or pitfalls in having many domains pointing to a single site?

Any advice appreciated.

it all depends on how you point them to the site. Nothing wrong if they want to 301 them to cut expenses and the SE's know this now a 302 or a redirect then yes there could be real problems.

Assuming that the domains are located with several hosts, with another company holding the site and primary domain, would I need to have all the domain hosts implement the 301?
