Hi all,
I've been having some problems with my current registrar and I'm pretty unhappy with their services, support and charges.

I'd like to move registrars but my current are asking £15 + VAT per domain to action the move.

I see Nominet only charge £10 INC VAT for this service but I also noticed the warning that this action will not cancel any current contract I may have with my current registrar. I'd rather pay Nominet £50 per domain than give my registrar another penny to be honest.

Does anyone know if there is any possibility of further fees from my registrar - in general - or if there are any other foreseeable problems using Nominet to do the transfer?

Note I haven't mentioned my registrar as I'm not here to rant about them - although I could !

Thank you for any advice.

There are no further fees payable to an existing registrar if you move your domain to a new register using Nominet.

However this does not release you from any contract you have entered with your current registrar and any outstanding amounts on that contract would be payable - though if you are in dispute over invoices you may wish to with hold payment.

Thank you.

I don't believe there will be any fees then as one domain is not due for renewal until June 2009 and another March 2010 (both 2 year .uk names).

Do you also know if I HAVE to inform my current registrar of my intention to switch registrars via Nominet? Or will the fact that it is being actioned by Nominet be enough notice for them?

Thanks again.

You do not have to notify your current registrar of your intention to switch via Nominet (with a lot of the online registrars this would be almost impossible anyway)

They will get a notification once the transfer occurs.
