Im totally new to name drop and catching. Ive recently read that certain Registrars have a deal with certain name drop companies. Is this true, and if so, who does Melbourne IT prefer?

I understand that going to the prefered name drop company that the Registrar has will increase your chances of getting the domain name.

Anything that deals with money IE Domain names PR and traffic you bet ya there is with most registers if not all.

It is a tough tough business and most good domains expiring are snaped up very quitely.

Might be Afternic. Verify by submitting an inquiry to MelbourneIT's tech or customer support email.

For future reference, I find that tech/customer support will often answer questions such as - "Who handles your deleted/dropped/expired domain auctions? - since the answer is one they should know and it's likely that the company would share in drop/auction profits = so they should be happy to tell you who auctions their domain drops.

People are often more willing or programmed to answer questions that are money makers for themselves or their company. IF they're not making money on the domain drops - or they're keeping them all for themselves - then it's more likely no one will reply. ;)
