Domain Value By TLD

I recently came across a .org domain for the exact two word keyword I was looking for at the standard $10 price so I bought it. It's a short snappy two words that sound great together.

Interestingly, the .com version was for sale at $900 and the .net version was for sale at $1100.

These are all empty domains without any history. Did I stumble on a deal? Say the .com version is really worth $700 and the .net version $500. What would the ballpark value of the .org be? I am thinking $300 to $500 but perhaps my thinking is all wrong on this.

Anyway, it has been quite a while since I searched for a solid domain name I wanted and one of the big 3 TDLs was actually available.

The .com may be right priced. The .net is likely overpriced, unless the .com registrant is clueless. The aftermarket value of a 2 word .Org is likely the reg fee, which is why it was unregistered and available.

2 word .Orgs are pretty far down the aftermarket value chain. There may be some "enduser value exceptions" but they're pretty rare. Domainer-to-domainer values will be near nill 99.99% of the time.

I've got a few - very few - 2 word .Orgs that get a little bit of traffic but they happen to be "very big generic commercial topic" domains that one might infer that "an organization" would exist. I'm talking the type of domain that hundreds of millions might assume that an organization exists and might be interested "in seeing if" and, with all that, the actual number of type-ins are scant. Still, it fits something that I'm working on and for which I have better domains at the .Com level.

Oh well. I thought I might have stumbled into something. However, I do not want the domain for type in traffic, I am sure the .com version gets next to zero type in traffic. For example, how much type in traffic did myspace or facebook get before they went live?

I want it for the memorable name. It is perfect for a Social Marketing idea I have. Since the .com is always better and not too overpriced, I will most likely make a $700 offer on it and see what happens.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (regarding price) . . and I've been known to "get it wrong" once in awhile . . or twice . . or alot, if you ask my wife . . :-P

If your aim is "memorable" then by all means to after the .com . . and then you can use the .Org as the charitable arm of your billion dollar social network. ;)

Ha. Good advice. A multi-thousand dollar social network would be fine. The domain owner of the .com took my $700 offer so the the org and com are mine.

This Domain business can be dangerous stuff for the inexperienced. I have purchased some great domains after the bar at 2 in the morning that did not look so good the next day.
