Interestingly, the .com version was for sale at $900 and the .net version was for sale at $1100.
These are all empty domains without any history. Did I stumble on a deal? Say the .com version is really worth $700 and the .net version $500. What would the ballpark value of the .org be? I am thinking $300 to $500 but perhaps my thinking is all wrong on this.
Anyway, it has been quite a while since I searched for a solid domain name I wanted and one of the big 3 TDLs was actually available.
2 word .Orgs are pretty far down the aftermarket value chain. There may be some "enduser value exceptions" but they're pretty rare. Domainer-to-domainer values will be near nill 99.99% of the time.
I've got a few - very few - 2 word .Orgs that get a little bit of traffic but they happen to be "very big generic commercial topic" domains that one might infer that "an organization" would exist. I'm talking the type of domain that hundreds of millions might assume that an organization exists and might be interested "in seeing if" and, with all that, the actual number of type-ins are scant. Still, it fits something that I'm working on and for which I have better domains at the .Com level.
I want it for the memorable name. It is perfect for a Social Marketing idea I have. Since the .com is always better and not too overpriced, I will most likely make a $700 offer on it and see what happens.
If your aim is "memorable" then by all means to after the .com . . and then you can use the .Org as the charitable arm of your billion dollar social network. ;)
This Domain business can be dangerous stuff for the inexperienced. I have purchased some great domains after the bar at 2 in the morning that did not look so good the next day.
