Domains go through a limbo period after they expire. They pass through various statuses (stati?) before they are finally, truly up for grabs. I've seen some charts out there which graphically detail the various phases. It's a long process.

I'd recommend you to backorder it.
If it is a good name, you will not be the only one after it.
For long-term backorder you can use Snapnames or Pool.
There other two, NameWinner and ClubDrop but you have to follow the process very near since you only have the chance to backorder it during the last five days prior to the final deletion.

looks like it is a .co.uk - is that correct? If so it will go through detagged and suspended stages before being released.

Yes it is a .co.uk

I quite like the domain and would suit my next project.

Maybe i should look into back ordering it.

When it comes to domains dropping you're pretty safe in assuming that there's dozens . . no hundreds . . no, maybe thousands of people tracking the same domain names. If it's a hot property count on 1000s tracking the drop, even if most are mere onlookers who know they can't play the game. Some drops just have a little more buzz, even if there's no more bidders.

There interests are largely the same. The biggest distinction is the size of their bank accounts.
