To the professional domainers out there,

I always though that all the domain names that had been registered at one time, when they came up for renewal that someone would snatch them up right away.

Today I looked for a common pair of words that represent 50% of vehicle sales in the US each year, and to my shock it was available. Checking archive.org it seems that it was last registered in 2005!

So I registered it. But I am still in shock. How could a domain name like this slip through the cracks?

Domain might have been black hat SEO back in the day, might take a while to shake that bad rep... if it has one!

Is it a trademark name?

Sure u got the spelling correct. I did that once and after I registered the name looked over my prize to see it was a misspell.

if not congratulations on a great find. As someone suggested see if there might be issues with the old name and get this corrected.

Is it a trademark name?

That's the first thing I'd be looking at. There are many domains floating about out there that seem like a gold mine. After further investigation, they are money pits.

Oh, the misspelling too, that one hurts. I've done it myself once or twice. I kept them and now take advantage of the type in traffic for the same damn misspelling I did. :)

No trademark. It is generic words, which is what surprised me. And I just checked it bwnbwn to see if I made the mistake you suggested. Nope. The curious part is why it was left alone, since it had been registered at one time.

Is it possible that it acquired some sort of "deadly disease" in its previous tenure? A search on Archive.org may uncover a few things.

Do tell, what are the words? Lemon-schlock? always-broken? reverse odometer?

a search on archive.org revealed - nothing....... the pages listed there were not available to view. A redirect error it says.

I'd look a little closer. There are indicators there as to what may have been going on with that domain over the years. It appears to have changed hands once before too so you may be the third owner. It looks like one of those expired domain scenarios.

Thanks gpilling you caused me to go on a domain buying frenzy and now my wife's gonna put me on restriction again. I'm gonna blame you for this latest round of domains buys.

Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

put me on restriction again

Do something profitable with them and all restrictions would be off! :)

Perhaps the goldrush is a bit on its return and domain names are not as commercially hot as we think. So many tld's today.

Domain names you can't get with .com or .net are always usually available in .org, well, at least the ones i've searched for.

And my suggestion is to not look for domain names with yahoo, I was searching for a domain name, and found a perfect name for my site, I checked once or twice that week, then a hour before I was going to purchase it, it was available, then when purchasing time came, BOOM, the domain name in .com and .net had been purchased by a domain selling company.

My anger was at a boiling point
