Importance of TLD?

I am wondering if Google differentiates between domains which are region specific or global. For example if i am hosting a site in spain, will domains having ".es" as TLD will work better.

Any clue in this direction will be most helpful.

Thanks

National Googles do take note of TLD.

For example, Google.co.uk will favour sites that are EITHER .co.uk OR have UK hosting.

Similar rules attach to all local Googles - but do vary a little - some may require .TLD AND local hosting, for example.

Google.com does not worry about TLD.

thanks quidpro, this was helpful.

Some more queries on same

1- Should I host the website in panama, if I want to gain weightage on google pa

2- If I have a specific country code, Google will automatically geo target the country corresponding to your extension.

Will look forward for any answers on the above 2.

Thanks

1. Sorry, I didn't know that there was a Google pa - so I cannot give specific advice beyond the general advice I gave above.

But if you do a few searches comparing pa with .com, you should be able to see if hosting makes a big difference.

2. Sorry again - I'm no expert on geolocation stuff, but I believe that TLD is one factor - on-page content also matters (local postcodes, telephone numbers etc.)
