my son just purchased some domains from 1&1.

in the domain cp 2 options are given for pointing/redirecting ie 'frame' & 'http' redirect - i know about the 'frame' redirect but am ignorant about the 'http' - is this a '301' or is it a different type of redirection?

cheers.

I imagine that http in this instance is being used as a generic term for a redirect that sends both an http status code [w3.org] and reference to the new location.

I don't know about your specific registrar, but most I've seen use 302 (an 'unknown' or temporary redirect) which is kind of logical since the registrar doesn't know why you are redirecting. You would have to test a specific redirect to know which type of redirect was delivered here.

I would email them about it. I know Godaddy allows you the option of using a 301 or 302.
