Hi Guys,

I've got a great idea for a new website but the only available domain for my keyword is a .nu. It is a very popular, single word domain name but I have some very bad experience with .nu domains. They are first of all expensive (got to register it for 2 years) and they get lesser traffic from the search engines than a .com domain.

I did a 'test' last year with 4 domains. Two .com's and two .nu's. I made 2 different websites and I published each website on a .com and a .nu. The .nu domains got considerable less traffic than the .coms (.nu got about 5% of the .com traffic, the .coms got on average about 500 uniqe visitors/day). It's possible that the .nu domains got less traffic because of duplicate content or another reason. Are there people with the same experience?

Just my personal preference, but I would not register a .nu. Instead, I'd look for other keywords or combinations of keywords that might be available in a .com or even .net or .org.

I have no valid scientific reasoning for that, just personal preference. However, your own tests have shown that .nu doesn't do as well, so maybe you answered your own question. :-)

In SERPs people usually click on .com websites rather than .nu websites
