Was your experience with your .mobi site succesful?
I have found several .mobi specific sections of search engines. Do they actually provide traffic?
What do I have to do to my host to make it handle the .mobi domain? Is it worth it to change the configurations or should I just open up a new .mobi account?
Any general points I should know before starting on my adventure with .mobi?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I guess you are wondering why there are so few comments.
It's my observation that very few folks have gotten excited about the .mobi extension. The "selling point" for .mobi was that websites had to be mobile standards compliant to qualify for retaining a .mobi domain.
The problem for .mobi is any website can be mobile standards compliant.
The problem for .mobi is that countries, such a Korea and Japan, have long been "mobile happy" - at a very large scale - and the accomplished this without "the benefit of .mobi".
So, you will find very few developers thinking in terms of .mobi, .mobi hosting, etc. They MAY be thinking of designing for mobile standards but developers see it as a standards and design issue, not a gTLD issue.
Lastly, it appears that mobile devices are doing a decent job of rendering websites "as is".
So, I'm not sure you are going to get many more comments and we're not going to re-open the debate about the need for or utility of .mobi. It is what it is: a gTLD that has certain requirements.
Rather than bothering with the .mobi extension many companies are opting for mobi.example.com or example.com/mobi.
The compliant standard coding required for .mobi is very easy to use for a basic site however I am now, despite my previous posts here, beginning to wonder whether it is worthwhile at all!
I shall certainly keep specific names for the "matching company name sets" however I may consider auctioning the remainder.
