Today I got a mail from a chinese company telling us they got a request from a chinese company for a yourdomain.cn registration and since we have yourdomain.org, we would have priority to register it, and they can do that for us, before we loose the right for .cn - gimme a break!

There can be an "up-side" to these scams, as draggar commented in this thread. [webmasterworld.com]

and they can do that for us

Just to let you know that .cn has been the fastest expanding extension this past year or so with many deisrable names already registered.

If you search around you can find USD 3.00 first year offers...not exactly costly:-)

Although this is more of an SEO observation my English language mycompanyname.cn now has just over 12% of the traffic of mycompanyname.com however with a far greater success rate insofar as securing genuine trade orders.

It's certainly worth considering it if you are an importer/exporter/trader/international company.

.cn has been the fastest expanding extension this past year or so with many deisrable names already registered.

Not to mention many "undesirable" names.
Much of the SPAM coming in now is for .cn domains.

I am very, very close to putting ".cn" in my SPAM text filter (or at least ".com.cn"). Unfortunately, with the nature of our business, we would risk filtering out a lot of non-SPAM, so I have been holding off so far.

.cn is cheaper than .com & .net in China
.net/.com 60 CNY/year
.cn 1 CNY/year

My clients have been getting these emails left and right in the last month or two. Every time they forward one to me, I send an email reply to the original Chinese sender. I thank them for their warning, and let them know that thanks to their tip, I was able to pay a Chinese company to register all the Asian domain names they suggested for me. Then I thank them again for selflessly warning domain name owners about what could have happened to them.
