Background - my husband designed a website five years ago for a local organization. He registered the domain for a five-year period and then, basically, forgot about it. The contact info on the domain was, however, in his name (now outdated).
The domain expired yesterday, February 3, 2008. This morning, February 4, 2008, the site was already redirecting to a sleezy spam ads page that brought up a threat on my anti-virus screen when I tried to view the source.
Ecom.com is showing the reseller to be a company we initially used for hosting all those years ago. Apparently, they ran in and picked up the domain.
How could they? The domain was locked. My understanding is that there is a grace period of 30 days or so?
I have an old account id and password to ecom.com that their site says "does not exist".
This reseller did not change any of the contact info; at least it's not showing so far.
Anyway, huge snafu. Any advice you can give as to how we can get this name back would be very appreciated.
Thanks
The chances are very good that you can still renew (or redeem) the domain name ... that it is only parked during the "expiration process".
You need to move FAST ;-) ... CALL the Registrar (not the reseller).
Let us know how it works out!
