and finally
6. what are the advantages and disadvantages of parking a domain?
1. CashParking (as you refer to it) works simply by placing advertising links on a domain name. This can be done by pointing the DNS of the domain to a link provider (such as Sedo). Links can also be pulled in via HTTP calls. It is very simple to setup. In terms of Search Engines, initially yes, the domain is most likely to appear at the top of the engines for the keyword. However, the engines will become smart to the fact you are not a real site and you will gradually drop down the listings. We see this happening on most of our domain names. You will still appear in the engines for different phrases, but by not being a true website, you should not expect to be number one.
2. It's your domain, you can link to it from where ever you want. You might be restricted in terms of whether other peolpe will link to it, but you can link to it from any of your own sites etc. If you're trying to highlight it for sale then adding it to your forum signatures often helps - if the forums allow you to ad links in your signature.
3. How much can you earn .... well, how long is a peice of string? It largely depends on the traffic generated and the quality of the optimisation. More traffic / better quality obviously leads to more revenue, but quite often low traffic domains can display high Cost-Per-Click ads, meaning you'll still earn good money per click. Money from sales really comes down to how much someone is willing to pay you. Clicks / views do count, but it's largely to do with how much the domain is wanted by the buyer. As for what else you can do other than park, why not look at setting some of them (usually high traffic / low click domains) as affiliate sites? I've seen this work.
4. Money, as far as I am aware, is only earned through clicks. You'll receive a commission from the advert / parking supplier (thats how our system works). In terms of percentage, this is purely down to the supplier. It would be worth shopping around to see who offers what.
5. Well, I don't want to be biased. We use a couple but most have a lot of info on their sites. Searching the engines for "Cash Parking" or "Domain Parking" will bring up a good few options.
6. The advantages are obvious if you are making money from the domain. It's fairly easy to do. Optimisation can sometimes be time consuming to get it right, but even the most basic optimisation should result in clicks if there is traffic. As for disadvantages, the main one is not earning enough to cover the cost you are paying to keep the domain.
Unfortunately a lot of people hear about domain parking and think it will result in instant revenue but sadly this isn't the reality. It can take time to get optimised to a good level and quite often requires a little luck to end up with a good quality domain that will provide good revenue. For instance, we have around 200-300 domains in one of our accounts currently parked. More than 50% of the monthly revenue comes from the top 10-20 domains.
Hope all this helps.
2.Are you allowed to link to your parked page?
Parking services generally forbid you to build links to your pages, though most are OK with existing links (i.e. from a dropped domain. Read the TOS and ask your rep if unsure.
4.Do you earn money through clicks or impressions? What percentage goes to you?
Most are PPC. A few plans offer PPM revenue. Percentages vary.
what are the advantages and disadvantages of parking a domain?
Advantage: Chance to earn some money on a domain that would otherwise be sitting idle.
Disadvantage:IME, parked pages on some plans almost always seem to get indexed while those on certain others more often don't. I suspect the latter parking sites may be viewed as "bad neighborhoods" by the search engines.
If you plan to develop, park your name on one of the sites that tends to get search-engine love. How to find these? For the most part, it seems the pickier they are about accepting you into their program, the better your names will fare.
Whypark: Take glowing reviews with a grain of salt - they offer a hefty commission on referrals ;).
