The site doesn't rank very well for key phrases...
The .com tld for my domain is taken and the guy wont sell it for blood nor love nor money...
Offline only my business cards have the .net tld.
I know that if I move to the .ca domain I will be starting over with respect to dmoz, yahoo and all se's. Some SEO's tell me that a Canadian specific corporation should use a .ca tld and not a .net if given the option...
Basically I totally want to revamp my image, brand, business cards and website.
What things should I consider?
The .ca domain if hosted in Canada *may* see an increase in traffic from Canadians. If your site is hosted in Canada that may be part of the "problem".
There are so many more SEO things to consider here than just "switching" from .net to .ca. For example:
- What SEO have you done thus far?
- How competitive are the keywords you're trying to rank for?
- Where is your site hosted (US/Canada)?
- Is this an e-commerce or content/news site?
- Is all your content unique?
- Are you using proper title tags, meta data, etc.?
- How large is your website?
- Are you trying to get more CDN or US visitors?
Personally I wouldn't make the switch but I don't know all the details here. Feel free to sticky me if you want to discuss specifics.

i thought (prolly like everyone else) that i would be doing contracts for folks all over the world and that the .com domain would be the "right" choice, however as mentioned someone has it so i used what i thought would be the next best thing .net
so if im nowhere to be found as of right now other than typing in my company name would it be advisable to go with the .ca domain as the people i'm physically 'meeting and greeting' are predominantly canadian companies?
the site has basic information such as our services, about us, contact and portfolio... no blog, no forum, nothing else...
did i really think i would make it to the top with just the information i have even though i'm deep rooted with links?
no.

[edit reason] Tidying up. We mostly avoid specifics about member's business services [/edit]
You're in an incredibly competitive area, that explains a lot. I'm not sure you'd really see much advantage (i.e. traffic) using the .ca domain.
If I was you, I'd keep everything at the .net domain and make the .ca domain do a 301 redirect to the .net site. That way you can promote it as .ca or .net. That's just me. I tried the .ca domain and it didn't resolve to anything. Do what you like though ;-)
